I then placed one knee on top of the plywood and applied pressure with my weight and proceeded to pull the cover up over the sides. Then I used a piece of plywood 10" by 12" and placed that on top of the entire assemblage. It would not hurt t turn over the entire package at his point to make sure the alignment is okay all around the seat. Then place the assembled springs with burlap and all down on the inside of the cover. I put the seat cover face down on the carpeted floor. First the burlap is not supposed to be all on the flat of the seat. I can tell you what I did as best as I remember. I've put replacement leather seat covers on my modern GMC YukonXL Denali but this TR3 seat cushion is getting the better of me. Should I maybe put some hog rings in the bottom front edge first then start convincing the cover it's time to start cooperating? But I tried the process many times over the course of 30 minutes and finally had to give it a rest because I was fussing and fuming. I know everything has to be a tight fit (by some initial compression of the springs so as to ensure the cover is taut). The front of the cover keeps wanting to slide up the front of the seat before I can get the sides turned right side out. One time I got the front almost on but the middle had a big depression as if the padding was not filling in the space where it was supposed to. I've tried pulling the back end of the cover while I hold the hair padding in place at the front edge from inside. I've tried using a small amount of compression of the springs. By the time I'm starting to turn the sides right side out, the front edge has slipped off the padding edge. I turn the cover inside out, then put the front top piping edge on the equivalent edge of the cushion padding and begin to turn the cover right side out.

I know the cushion cover is supposed to be turned inside out to start the install of the cover but I can't for the life of me get the cover over all the horsehair, etc. There are no instructions with the seat covers kit. I've got all the seat cushion padding and hessian (burlap) installed per the nice instruction sheets which came with the TRF padding kit. I'm trying to install TRF vinyl seat covers on new springs and padding from TRF for my 1960 TR3 TS63103LO. I looked at the photos by CJD at British Car Forum and searched this forum. Fortunately the top is rarely used in California I did use the very upper part of the windshield for viewing. I never had trouble with the steering wheel ,but I always had trouble seeing stop lights when the top was on. As stated, I think your way is the best but I’d be worried about the cushion putting my thighs in interference with wheel. I could definitely use more support on my butt! My foam bottom, if I was to do this method would definitely be a fender foam than what I’ve now got. But no denying the right way is the route you are taking with the spring bottom. So I sit fairly low which is a good thing for steering wheel clearance. My TR3B is an older, but very well done restoration using foam in the seat cushions. Being quite tall I’m thinking I’d have quite the time fitting in the car., particularly the thigh to OEM steering wheel. It seems that the spring bottom cushion makes for a very tall seat. Out of curiosity, I’m wondering just how high the bottom vision ends up being with the bottom spring kit.
